Sonoma County Craft Beverage Map

On Friday the Sonoma County Economic Development Board released an interactive map showing all the unique craft beverages Sonoma County has to offer! This simple mapping application uses a template from Esri's story map page and an ArcGIS Online map. You can view and interact with the map at http://edb.sonoma-county.org/storymaps/beermap/.

Job Opportunity - Open Space District Easement Monitoring Technician

The Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District is currently recruiting for one (1) full-time Open Space District (OSD) Easement Monitoring Technician. This entry-level position has the primary role of monitoring protected lands to ensure landowner compliance with conservation easements and will perform the following types of duties:

  • Monitoring properties protected by conservation easements, which includes researching property information, using maps for navigation, driving and hiking on protected lands, and gathering monitoring data (including photographs and GPS data).
  • Working with staff, landowners, and volunteers to coordinate monitoring activities.
  • Preparing monitoring reports and supporting maps and photos, which includes basic cartography using ArcGIS and data entry using Microsoft Access.
  • Collecting and incorporating data, including GPS data, into GIS database.
  • Preparing maps as necessary using GIS.
  • Discussing observations of property conditions with District staff and analyzing land use activities in terms of easement compliance.

Twitter Language Map

Mapping Languages Using Twitter

Last week I ran across this map by Eric Fischer. I thought it was a very interesting way to map languages using a technology that is so pervasive. Here is a map where the language of the tweets tell the story of culture. Countries with their own single language are distinguishable (Portugal) while countries with multiple languages blend in with their surrounding countries (Belgium and Switzerland).
