Strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, a few tornadoes and heavy rain will be in play across the western and central Gulf Coast over the next few days. NWS is extending the comment period for the Experimental National Geographic Information System (GIS) Map Viewer (“the Viewer”) web application hosted on the Amazon Web Services public cloud through May 27, 2022. Many of the National Weather Service data sets are available in formats that are able to be imported directly into Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or your own custom map viewers or web pages. Data formats include downloadable shapefiles and KML formats, web services, and our basemaps in shapefile format.
